I don’t even remember how I came to know this term (probably from a Korean culture chat forum). But I’ve come to dislike it due to its divisional connotations. Gyopo is used to describe people of Korean heritage who live in a country other than one of the Koreas. My point is that they are not Gyopo in the first place. The term refers to overseas residents/migrants and the history of their settlement. A sailor who makes a call at a port in the Gilberts is not a gyopo. This is like calling a German tourist in New York a "German American".
